Blending history with contemporary sensibilities is an art—and Lampost Café is a testament to how thoughtful design can preserve heritage while embracing modernity. Nestled within the historic walls of a 50-year-old Imperial Brigadier House, this interior transformation redefines how traditional architecture can evolve into a vibrant, modern social space without losing its soul.
This large-scale interior design project focuses on openness, light, and harmony. By reimagining thick, obstructive walls and introducing graceful arches, the space now breathes—allowing natural light and ventilation to flow effortlessly throughout the café. The design draws inspiration from global craftsmanship, particularly the bamboo artistry of Tulum Beach, Mexico, creating a seamless fusion of rustic textures and modern aesthetics.
The existing 24-inch-thick walls posed a significant challenge, yet they became the defining feature of the project. Rather than removing them entirely, the design strategically transformed these solid barriers into elegant arches. These arches not only enhance visual appeal but also improve airflow and natural lighting through carefully designed arch windows.
A predominantly white color palette acts as a canvas, highlighting architectural details and amplifying the sense of openness. Modern elements are subtly layered into the historic framework, resulting in a space that feels timeless yet contemporary—offering guests an immersive and memorable experience.
The ceiling plays a vital role in shaping the café’s ambiance. A false ceiling painted in a soothing shade of morning glory adds warmth, character, and depth to the interiors. More than just an aesthetic choice, it enhances the homely and welcoming feel of the space while serving as a prominent design feature. This thoughtful intervention maintains a delicate balance between nature-inspired elements and modern design language.
Lampost Café offers a diverse seating experience—from intimate indoor corners to expansive outdoor garden seating. Each area is designed to provide comfort while maintaining visual continuity throughout the space.
Furniture crafted using carefully sourced bamboo and eucalyptus wood complements the modern design ethos while reinforcing sustainability. Thoughtful color coordination and contemporary furniture forms create a unified aesthetic, ensuring that every seating arrangement feels inviting, cohesive, and visually engaging.
Lampost Café stands as a perfect example of how heritage spaces can be respectfully adapted for modern use. By preserving the architectural essence and integrating contemporary design elements, the café delivers a unique experience—where history, craftsmanship, and modern comfort coexist in perfect harmony.
